This approximates to a current source, but is not as good as a full active version. This modification adds an precision active current source for the first differential stage.

The Kenwood Basic M1 power amplifier was designed with the bias diodes mounted on brackets that are attached to the heat sink. The leads on the bias diode are not long enough to allow mounting the bis diodes directly on the heatsink. This modification allows the bias diodes to be mounted directly on the heat sink for better thermal tracking.
