The Kenwood Basic M2 and M2A were designed to use dual Sanken power transistors in MT-200 packages. These transistors are no longer available from Kenwood parts.
There are now connectors on the wires that connect the pc board on the heat sink to the main amplifier pc board. The heat sink can be removed by unplugging the connectors and removing 4 screws. No de-soldering required!
A new heatsink with 20% more surface area and lower thermal resistance than the original heatsink.
Brackets and hardware are included to mount the heatsink in a Basic M2 or M2A without any modifications to the chassis.
The main pc board must be removed from the unit to remove the factory heatsink! The new heatsink can be removed from the unit without removing the main pcb.
Output transistor pairs are gain matched!
New driver transistors and new heatsinks are included that have approximately 4 times the surface area of the original driver transistors heatsinks.
New transistors for the Pre-Driver stage are included in the kit.
Bias diodes are mounted in an optimal position between the low power and high power stage output transistors s for each channel.
Wires are included with connector terminals crimped on the end.
Latching wire housing are included for connector terminals to be inserted in.
Test points are now provided to set idle current, eliminating the need for dual emitter resistors with test pins on top.
A new 80C fan switch is included.
Mounting hardware and thermal compound are included to mount the thermal switch on the heat sink.
